I took a look at some image generators, Image Chef and Warning Sign Generator. What struck me about these sites was the amount of adds. Most image generators I found had quite a bit of adds, and some of them had pop-ups. Others had inappropriate language or images. Therefore, I don't think an image generator would be suitable for students to use unless you can find a trusted website. However, I can see how they would be useful for teachers to add a personal touch to emails, blogs, or even worksheets. I had fun creating my images, and it was super easy to boot. I can actually remember using image generators back in my myspace days (circa 2005), but it usually involved embarrassingly glittery care bears. Err...let's not go there.
