I just made a slideshow using Animoto, and it was a very interesting experience. It makes making professional looking slideshows very easy.
I had no problems making my slideshow, and I'm happy with the way it turned out. I can see this application being used as an assignment for students, as opposed to boring ol' Powerpoint. I can see myself using Animoto again for personal photos, and also for academic presentations.
